Finally, Snapchat joined the roster of apps that made use of dark mode support on iOS. Not that it changes the appearance on the main screen which mostly consists of your or your interlocutor’s video. But when you go to menus, this can make a difference, especially in the night. So let’s make it darker on Snapchat.
Hello Darkness
So, you have an iPhone with a Snapchat installed. It’s not as intuitive as it night seem to set it to the dark mode: Snapchat is quite a counterintuitive app unless you’re living in it. To turn the dark mode on, launch Snapchat and do the following:
- Tap the icon with your avatar in the top left corner to open your profile;
- Tap the Settings icon in the top right corner;
- Scroll down to App Appearance and tap it to choose the option;
- Choose “Always Dark” to always run Snapchat in the dark mode.
Yes, it will make the app more pleasant for your eyes and give them less strain, especially when the brightness is constantly set on high. While the dark mode will not affect video chats, everything else will look very different. No matter if it’s menus, maps, in-app games, or whatever – it all looks more saturated and colorful with the black background.
Automatic Mode
If you only want dark mode on Snapchat when it’s nighttime outside, but have not set it up in your system yet, you can do the following.
- Go to Settings on your iPhone;
- Go to “Display & Brightness”;
- Switch the “Automatic” button under the Light/Dark options to “On”
- Choose your schedule: “Dark Until Sunrise”, if you want your iPhone to switch modes from day to night and back, or “Custom Schedule” if you want it any other way.
- Launch Snapchat and go through Steps 1-3 from the previous instruction.
- Choose “Match System”
Of course, if you have already set up automatic Night mode on your iPhone, you can skip the first stages. But if not, this instruction will help you.
Spread the News!
Snapchat was one of the last popular social apps on iOS that did not introduce Dark Mode until recently. As we have explained, it was partly because the developers felt little need in this: the main screen is mostly playing videos. But here it comes, and we’re grateful.
Well, now, if your Snapchat is still running, you can send the link to this article to your friends, so they have more fun communicating with you at night. You can as well share this on Facebook and Twitter to remind your Snapchat friends you still care. And if you have something to say about how this mode works or how necessary it is, leave a comment below.
