WhatsApp is as busy as before when it comes to adding new features. This time the company is reportedly working on granular privacy controls that will appear in the application.
The company has started introducing new features for the beta testers of the app for iOS and Android devices. The first signs of the new privacy controls were seen last year, but now it seems that WhatsApp is taking things further. Such granular privacy controls are designed to give a more extensive control over what information about you specific users can see when using WhatsApp. This includes seeing your profile photo, your ‘about’ information, and also the ‘last seen’ status.
Even though some testers can already use such features in the beta of WhatsApp, the company hasn’t yet made any official announcements. Similar to other reports, the information comes from the WABetaInfo tracker, which is a reliable source of WhatsApp-related news.
As for the features, they are useful ones for when you have to talk to a lot of random people in the app. If you enable controls so that a person cannot view your ‘last seen’ status in the app, you won’t be able to see their status as well. However, this doesn’t happen if you hide the ‘about’ page from them.
Just recently, WhatsApp added a Community feature to the app that allows users to manage groups more effectively. Thanks to this feature, it is possible to add groups to the so-called Communities where administrators can send the same messages to all contacts in these groups. What is more, WhatsApp added new reactions, group calls for up to 32 people, and also a higher limit for sharing files in the app.
