Uber Takes New Safety Measures to Make Your Ride Even More Comfortable

Uber is presenting new safety measures that are supposed to help both riders, and you on the trip. Some of them are audio reminders to wear seat belts, an audio recording feature, and updated RideCheck.

The audio reminder feature is considered to be very important, as most of the accidents in vehicles are caused by the lack of restraint on the body. The tool will be released later this month and is expected to spread nationally. It will send you an audio message about seat belt safety or send a push notification.

The audio recording feature is still in progress. It will be tested next week in some of the U.S. cities. Both riders and drivers can use this feature by pushing the shield icon and choosing “Record Audio”. The audio files are saved on the driver’s device and heavily protected, so no one, including Uber, can listen to the recording. In case that some report comes to Uber, a client can use the audio file as evidence.

RideCheck also gets some new action. As the system has identified especially long drives or car accidents before, now it will also detect trips that ended too early, and send a notification to both driver and rider to know if everything is alright.

Uber has received a lot of claims regarding negligence, especially big are the scandals around Uber’s silence to the reports about sexual assaults. These new features are supposed to improve the situation with the lawsuits, providing more evidence to the court.

In 2019, Uber’s safety transparency report showed that over 2017 and 2018 the company had been holding nearly 6,000 reports of sexual assault. Uber was fined $150,00 by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) when the company decided to withhold the data concerning such incidents.

Do you think these features will help everyone feel safer? What else could the company add? Share your opinion in the comments below.
