A few years ago, the users of Twitter demanded the platform to increase their character limit and also allow users to edit their posted tweets. The developers listened to just a half of such demands and currently, the platform allows you to post not 140 but 280 characters. While there is still no sign of the editing feature, it seems that the company wants to add a new function that will allow users to share long posts without any limitations.
At the moment, if you want to post tweets that are lengthier than 280 characters, you have to create threads. In such Twitter threads, tweets will be separate but still linked together, so you can express your thoughts without anything getting lost. This time, the company works on the ‘Twitter Articles’ feature so that users can post lengthy articles if they want to. Judging by the available screenshot, such articles will be displayed in a separate section and the normal character limit will stay in place.
Currently, it is not completely clear how this new feature will work and whether all users will be able to access it. It is possible that it will be limited only to users who subscribe to Twitter Blue, but we still have to wait to find out. We can surely expect more details regarding the update in the upcoming weeks, and the Twitter spokesperson mentioned that the company is always searching for new ways that people can have conversations online.
It’s difficult to predict how useful this feature will be considering that people view Twitter to get information quickly and not as the platform for diving deeply into prolonged texts.
What do you think about this addition? Is it necessary when there are already so many blogs and platforms around? Please, tell us what you think in the comments below.
