The publisher of GTA V has revealed that its sales of new-gen versions for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 have been phenomenal. With this new increase in sales, the total number of copies sold has finally surpassed 165 million. This astounding number of copies has been sold since the game first hit the shelves back in 2013.
According to the report mentioned above, the total number of new-gen copies has exceeded 5 million since they were first released in March. This means that they were able to sell 5 million copies in just 2 months which is extremely impressive considering the fact that GTA V is already nine years old. Of course, nothing less could be expected from the GTA franchise.
Another reason why so many copies have been sold can be attributed to the fact that it’s extremely easy to upgrade your copy of GTA V from the PS4 version to PS5. The price for upgrading from PS4 to PS5 versions of the game was fairly small; however, this offer lasted until the 14th of June and is no longer available. After the 22nd of June, the users are able to buy a bundle that contains the single and multiplayer versions of the game, making it very cost-efficient.
During the same time, Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold 1 million copies, allowing it to reach a total number of 44 million copies sold after its release. Compared to any other game this is a very impressive number, but it pales in comparison to the achievements that GTA V has made.
